In memory of those who have fought and died for our country. I always get excited about 3 day weekends but I have to stop myself and reflect what makes Memorial Day weekend special. My prayers and thanks go out to those who have loved ones that have given themselves for our freedom.

Wednesday Wheels

When I first saw a picture of the Fiat Ducato Camper, I thought "wow, a camper with a pompadour". Now that Fiat owns Chrysler perhaps they'll start selling this in the U.S. as the Dodge Elvis.

If you'll recall at the beginning of the year I had posted the birth of Arya Gandrathi, the first born of my co-worker Neethi and her husband Sunil. Well, here's a photo of Arya striking an adorable pose. This was taken for Mother's Day, as evidenced by the outfit Arya's wearing.

Today I thought I'd feature the Buick Skyhawk. In January of 1985 my Dad bought my Mom a brand new 1984 Buick Skyhawk. It was a fun car that my Mom drove for a few years. It's difficult to find good pictures of this car on the internet but I did find the one above which is actually a 1983. My Mom's was Fern Green (I really liked that color) and it had sporty alloy wheels (as opposed to the hubcaps shown on this one).

My Anniversary at DAG

I started working for Davey Administration Group in January of 2004 through Pridestaff and 5 months later, on May 17th, I was hired as a permanent employee. One week before my 1 year anniversary I was let go (it's a long story) and re-hired on my 1 year anniversary. I like to think of it as a one week vacation. I'm about to take on more responsibilities as I move toward becoming an Administrator (I'm an assistant currently) and I'm looking forward to it. Today also marks the 5th Anniversary of one of my co-workers, Neethi, and her husband Sunil. Neethi is the one who just returned from maternity leave after having their first child, a beautiful baby girl name Arya (translated as "warrior" in Neethi's native tongue Telegu).

Since our Annual Church Picnic at Kearney Park is this weekend, I thought I'd feature the Kearney Mansion. Martin Theodore Kearney commissioned the residence, built in the French Renaissance style, and building began in 1892. This was not intended to be his main residence but rather the caretaker's lodge and a temporary place for Kearney to live until a larger chateau was built as his main residence. At the time of Kearney's death in 1906, only this residence and a servant's quarters had been built. Today the house contains 50% of its original furnishings and tours are given daily.

Pray While You Can Pray

V1. A voice down deep inside him,
would say "its time to pray".
But he would ignore it,
until it went away.
Thinking he'd have tomorrow,
like he did yesterday.
But now his life has ended,
what a painful price to pay.

Ch. Pray while you can pray.
God has given us, a space of time each day.
For tomorrow may just come and go,
or may not come at all.
So while you have a chance right now,
don't ignore the call.

V2. She would hear the pastor,
say it's praying time.
And she would ignore it,
'cause she had her life in line.
She would say, "I'll do it later",
and she would ignore the plea.
But before she had another chance,
she slipped into eternity.

Br. So my friend will you ignore the call,
or will you take the time to kneel.
For you may not have another chance,
the voice inside is calling still.

Wednesday Wheels

Nissan produced the S-Cargo in Japan from 1989 to 1992. It was a small delivery van that had an 89" wheelbase. It's name, having a double meaning, stands for "Small Cargo" as well as "Escargot" because of its snail-like looks.

The Little Things

I received an e-mail today that really made me stop and think. I'm guilty at times of complaining about the little things that happen in life but now I'll have to look at them differently. Here it is:

As you might remember, the head of a company survived 9/11 because his son started kindergarten.

Another fellow is alive because it was his turn to bring donuts.

One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time.

One was late because of being stuck on the New Jersey Turnpike because of an auto accident.

One of them missed his bus.

One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change.

One's car wouldn't start.

One couldn't get a taxi.

The one that struck me was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work, but before he got there he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone....

All the little things that annoy me.
I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment.

Next time your morning seems to be going wrong,

You can't seem to find the car keys, you hit every traffic light, you get stuck behind an infamous Fresno driver (sorry, I had to add that one), don't get mad or frusterated. It may be just that God is at work watching over you.

Wednesday Wheels

Available in Japan as the Toyota Mark X and in China as the Toyota Reiz, the mid-size car shown above is an alternative to the Toyota Camry for buyers who like the size of the Camry, but prefer a front engine, rear drive powertrain with an all-wheel-drive option, which the Camry doesn't offer, and obviously like a more aggressive looking car. I definitely like the looks of the Mark X over the Camry.
