Since our Annual Church Picnic at Kearney Park is this weekend, I thought I'd feature the Kearney Mansion. Martin Theodore Kearney commissioned the residence, built in the French Renaissance style, and building began in 1892. This was not intended to be his main residence but rather the caretaker's lodge and a temporary place for Kearney to live until a larger chateau was built as his main residence. At the time of Kearney's death in 1906, only this residence and a servant's quarters had been built. Today the house contains 50% of its original furnishings and tours are given daily.
Our picnic is tomorrow, too! We're at a park directly under the Burbank Airport flight path...
ReplyDeleteEgads. Well, as long as no airplane needs to make an emergency landing where you're at that's okay.
