Why words can't be spelled the way they sound is beyond me. How much more simple it would be if you could say, "Well, it's pronounced this way so it must be spelled this way" and always be correct. Anyway, I've listed a few words that fall into this category.

K as in Carrot
L as in El Camino
M as in Emblem
N as in Pneumonia
Q as in Cucumber
S as in Celery
T as in Pterodactyl
U as in Yourself
W as in Juan
X as in Extra
Y as in Llama or Useful
Z as in Xylophone
