Christmas Candy

About a year after I moved into the caretaker's quarters at Truth Tabernacle (almost 12 years ago), I was invited to the Brown's, who live next door to the church, for dinner and games. While we were playing games Sister Mendy brought out some Christmas candy, the hard kind, that she had found in one of their cabinets. It had been there for awhile. We all joked about it and then I asked if I could have a piece since that kind of candy doesn't go bad. She actually gave me the rest of the can. For years she would ask me if I had eaten any the Christmas candy. On July 26, 2010, Sister Mendy Brown was relieved from her suffering when God took her home to be closer to Him. She'll be greatly missed here below, but I'll still remember her when I'm eating Christmas candy.
